To avoid returning to the orphanage, she married James Dougherty in 1942 while still very young. During World War II, she worked in an aircraft factory, where her modeling career began after being discovered by a photographer. Adopting the stage name Marilyn Monroe, she signed a contract with 20th Century Fox in 1946 and started appearing in films. Early in her career, she had small roles and gained attention for a semi-nude calendar photo that helped her land more acting opportunities.

Marilyn became a celebrated American actress, model, singer, philanthropist, and social activist, known for her iconic screen presence and charm. She married thrice: to James Dougherty (1942–1946), baseball star Joe DiMaggio (1954–1955), and playwright Arthur Miller (1956–1961). Despite her fame and glamorous life, Monroe faced personal struggles and tragedy, passing away at age 36 on August 4, 1962, in Brentwood, Los Angeles. Her legacy endures as a cultural icon who captivated audiences worldwide with her talent and spirit.
